About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Kyiv-Mohyla Archaeological Journal publishes research articles in the following areas:
-
Archaeology of Ukraine
-
World Archaeology
-
Zooarchaeology
-
Anthropology
-
Spatial Archaeology
The journal also publishes professional reviews of monographs, collective works, source collections, and conference proceedings within the above-mentioned fields.
Peer-Review
The main goal of the peer-review process is to enhance the scientific value of published articles by establishing objective procedures for selecting submitted manuscripts and developing balanced recommendations for their improvement.
Scientific articles that are formatted according to the established requirements are eligible for peer review. To determine the extent to which these requirements are met, submitted articles undergo an initial check by members of the journal’s editorial board.
If issues are identified during the initial check, the article is returned to the author for correction of the noted deficiencies within a specified timeframe, or it is rejected in cases of detected plagiarism.
Articles submitted to the journal are sent for review to experts who specialize in the relevant field and possess extensive professional knowledge and experience within the specific area of research.
The editorial office ensures the anonymity of both reviewers and authors.
During the peer-review process, the following aspects are evaluated:
-
Alignment of the article’s topic with the journal’s scientific profile
-
Relevance of the article’s subject matter
-
Correspondence between the article’s title and its content
-
Logical coherence and persuasiveness of the scientific argumentation of the main points
-
Adequacy of the justification for the main research results
-
Presence of elements of scientific novelty
-
Reflection of research results in the conclusions
-
Need for shortening, removing, expanding, or revising certain parts of the article
-
Need for improvements in style, language, and terminology used
-
Sufficiency and quality of bibliographic sources, as well as accuracy of citations
After reviewing the materials, reviewers must make one of the following decisions:
-
Recommended for publication
-
Recommended for revision and resubmission for a second review
-
Not recommended for publication (if the article largely does not meet the requirements and would require significant time for revision; the author may submit a revised version for the next issue)
-
Not recommended for publication with no possibility of resubmission (if the submitted text contains plagiarism, does not correspond to the journal’s scope, or does not meet the journal’s quality standards)
The final decision regarding submitted materials is made by the journal’s editorial board.
The results of the review, comments, and recommendations are sent to the author via email.
The time allotted for revising the article is no more than one month.
The revised version of the article is then sent for a second review. In the case of a second negative review, the article is rejected and will not be considered further. The editorial board does not engage in discussions with authors of rejected articles.
The editorial office reserves the right to make minor literary edits and shorten texts while preserving the author’s style.
Materials are published according to the approved schedule of the Publishing Department of NaUKMA.
Publication Frequency
The journal is published twice a year. From the submission of a manuscript to the publication of an accepted article, the process usually takes up to six months.
